The 4 types of exercise that keep you young! 

Now that you’re  a little less young, sports may have become less of a priority.

The truth is: staying active is now more important than ever. Muscles and bones  weaken with age, and this can take away the active, independent lifestyle you value. Fortunately, you can stop this trend by adding these four styles of exercise to your routine.

There is a misconception that once you start aging you should stay away from strenuous activities. This couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s safe, it’s effective, and it’s fun!.

There are countless benefits of exercising no matter how old you are. The most impactful of which being:

  • Improved strength
  • More energy
  • Can improve mood and fight off depression.
  • It prevents or delays diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, or osteoporosis.
  • It helps you sleep better.

All these benefits put together greatly promote your overall health and may even improve cognitive function (how your brain works): you’ll stay on top of your work, have lots of energy for fun with your friends and family and the doctor will have no clue who you are.

There are 4 types of exercise which are all equally important to include in your exercise routine:

Cardio

Cardio increases your breathing and heart rate plus it improves the health of your heart, lungs, and circulatory system. Examples are:

  • Running
  • Swimming
  • Rowing

 

Strength training

Strength training makes your muscles and bones stronger. Examples:

  • Lifting weights.
  • Jumping and throwing
  • Doing body-weight exercises (push-ups, sit-ups).

Coordination exercises

Better coordination improves your body awareness. Examples:

  • Gymnastics
  • Jump rope

Flexibility

Flexibility training aims improve your freedom of movement. Examples are:

  • Stretching
  • Yoga

CrossFit incorporates all of these plus you get guidance from experienced coaches who adjust the training to your needs. On top of that you train with other people making it a social activity as well!
